On Thursday 9 July 2026, runners from across Dublin and beyond came together for the Docklands 5K, one of the city's popular summer evening running events. Set in the heart of Dublin Docklands, the race offered participants a fast and flat 5K route surrounded by some of the most recognisable modern landmarks in the city. For Sniper Photography, it was also an opportunity to capture the energy, effort and atmosphere of the event through professional race photography.
The 2026 Docklands 5K started in the South Dock area, close to the Samuel Beckett Bridge, before taking runners along the Docklands and River Liffey. The route continued towards the city centre before crossing the Matt Talbot Bridge and heading along the North Quay towards the 3Arena. Runners then returned towards the South Dock before continuing to the finish near Capital Dock on Sir John Rogerson's Quay. The course is known for being flat and fast, making it an attractive race for runners looking to challenge themselves over 5 kilometres. The official event information also describes the race as open to runners of all abilities, with both individual and team entries available.
For us, photographing this race was also about making the most of its unique surroundings. The images focused not only on the runners, but also on the relationship between the course and the city: the bridges, the River Liffey, the modern buildings and the different points along the route that are part of the Docklands 5K experience.The result is a collection of photographs that reflects how this 2026 edition was experienced: a fast-paced, urban and dynamic race, with the distinctive atmosphere of Dublin Docklands as its backdrop.
